It's not an easy problem that's for sure. We encountered some at a nice hotel during a vacation. Thankfully we were able to seal everything up in trashbags so we didn't bring any home. But because of that I read so much about these nasty little buggers!
*So it's alot of work but you will need to search out where they are hiding. Usually along the seams of mattresses and headboards but can be other places as well so look closely. Vacuum them up!
*Wash clothing, bedding, etc on hot water cycle and dry hot. Fold and put directly into black trash bags and seal them. Put them in the car, deck, yard so the sun can further heat the up.
*Alternatively you can freeze things for 4 days at 0 degrees.
*Vacuum everything (get edges and creases of bedding, furniture, rugs, etc) and empty the vac and tie the bag immediately and put in the trash can outside.
*Use a steam cleaner at 130 degrees to go over carpets, cracks in wood floors, and edges that bugs could be.
*Spray bed bug specific pesticides in cracks and crevices, then use a fogger.
*Encase your bed in a plastic zipper case. Same for pillows.
*Put sticky cardboard (interceptors) so bugs can't crawl up to the mattress.
*Seal off any rooms that do not have bugs temporarily.
*Keep checking for the next 10 to 14 days for eggs that have hatched or bugs you missed.

The answer is a little complicated. Having a plan is very important. Encasements, bed post interceptor traps, and a long lasting pesticide powder (like cimexa) will take care of many early-stage infestations. If you're dealing with a more advanced infestation, I'd recommend considering a professional if you can. Otherwise, you'll want to bring in a contact killing spray or steamer on top of the stuff we already mentioned. We've got a seriously thorough guide to getting rid of bed bugs at any stage here.
Hopefully it helps, feel free to reach out with questions.
