Sago Palm makes me itch? How to care for my potted frond?

Sago Palm fronds make me itch a lot once I’ve accidentally touched them. I ocassionally rotate my potted one so it doesn’t grow to one angle. Is this a typical reaction? I try to wear long sleeves when I rotate the pot, but sometimes I don’t, my bad.

Since the palm is in a pot, you could use an old sheet to cover the palm when you are moving it.

This is a highly toxic plant. It can kill pets if ingested. So not surprise you get itchy touching it.

Hi! I am allergic to many plants - I wear long sleeves and inexpensive gardening gloves (stock up now while they are easy to get) and change after I'm done. Wash your hands well. I break out in hives.

  • I'm allergic to a lot of plants too. I take over the counter zyrtec and then shower immediately to remove everything that I'm allergic to. There are plants that I'm super allergic to (zinnias) that I just try to steer clear of.

Maybe buy a rolling plant stand so that you don't have to touch it as much.
