How do I kill poison ivy if I’m allergic to it?

Mix a spray bottle with bleach and water. Half and half ratio. Just sprY it on the vines all the way to the ground and it will kill the ivy.

This is were you kill it with a product made to kill poison ivy. Big box diy is where I got the stuff. Once it’s killed, the oils that make you itch are still active. Never ever burn poison ivy the compounds that make the itch go airborne not good for the lungs. Chop the vines up into smaller sections and bag them as garbage. Do note that your clothes can Carry the itch oil. Be very carefull getting them off.

I tucked my pantlegs in my rain boots,wore long sleeves and then a pair of "opera-length" purple Playtex dish gloves., and tied my hair back so I wouldn't accidentally brush it back while working

I also prepared some soapy water in a bucket for washing things off at the end.

I pulled all the ivy I could and carefully put in a big paper bag,handling only the top two inches of the bag so I would not spread the oils on the outside of the bag. I sprayed what I couldn't pull with Round-up for Poison ivy., this is supposed to be carried through the plant to the roots.

I then hosed off my rain boots and pruners and washed them with soapy water while my gloves were still on .

I took those gloves off and put on another pair of just regular exam gloves to roll down the bag to close it. I wrote "poison ivy" in big letters and put in the trash {not compost), to decrease the chance of workers handling it down the line.

Last year a little bit of it came back, so I just sprayed it with the Round-up for Poison Ivy. This year there was one more sprig, so it got sprayed.

You can very easily kill poison ivy with sprays made to kill poison ivy. I am very allergic to it myself and with some care, you can avoid getting it on your skin. I have cut very large vines that grew up large trees with a machete and then sprayed the killer on the vine where I made the cut. It completely killed the poison ivy, but as a prior reviewer stated, if you touch the dead vine, you can still get the oil on your skin. The proper name for the oil is "Urushiol."

There are products that you can purchase over the counter that will render the urushiol completely safe if used correctly. You must make sure to wash any skin that was exposed to the poison ivy with the product immediately after exposure and you should be fine. Just remember that any clothing items that touch the poison ivy will have the urushiol in the fabric and must be washed accordingly as well. Good Luck!

poison ivy can be a beast to get rid of it has to be killed right down to the root. If you know anyone with goats? they love the stuff, eat it up Some people say vinegar/salt spray but I don't think it will kill the root, check youtube for recipes if you want to go that route, or google "poison ivy killer"

Honestly, it's not worth it. Maybe find a friend or neighbor to help. I'm hyper allergic to poison ivy and to me, it's not even worth getting close to it or risking it to be miserable for the next 2 weeks. Good luck! Hugs, Holly

3 cups white vinegar

1/2 cup table salt

1 tablespoon liquid detergent or soap (I use Dawn) for stick-to-itiveness.

Directions

1. Mix vinegar and salt until the salt is completely dissolved. Stir in liquid dish soap, and pour into a spray bottle.
2. Spray onto the green growing leaves of the plants.
3. Wait a week, then repeat on any survivors. Best time to apply: during a dry spell.

Repeat as necessary.
