Astilbe dies back in the winter so,I wait till then to clean them up.
You can trim them back after they finish blooming. Just clip off any spent flower stems. Your astilbes will continue to provide pretty leaves until fall. When the leaves start turning yellow, you can trim those to make room for fresh growth in the Spring.
Hello. I just cut the flower off after it flowers to keep my garden looking well maintained. In fall I then cut the whole plant back.
