Have you had the a.c. unit serviced by a technician? It saves you a bunch of trouble. If you want to do it yourself, first you will need to disconnect the power, then unscrew all covers to take the cover grill out. Give it a good scrubbing with hot soapy water and a stiff brush. The interior coils should be carefully blown out with air, a yard blower or a compressor will do. While the cover grill is drying, get to work clearing the weeds and vines away. Add some weed barrier and rocks or pavers around the unit to help keep it clean in the future. Replace the covers. Plug it in.

Knv Hi, Sarurate the area with water from the hose. Let it sit overnight. Next wear some garden gloves, it might be more than ivy. Find a root, and put your hand on the very bottom of the vine, and pull slowly, you should get the root and all. When the area is cleaned, put your pavers standing up, closer together, but don't block the compressor. You could paint the pavers, or paint them different colors. Good Luck!

Spray the weeds well with pure vinegar and wait a couple of days. They will die and you can easily pull them or rake them away. Then place landscape fabric or garbage bags down in the area and cover with small rocks or pebbles or gravel or pavers so they weeds can't grow back up into the a/c.

Good answers already. I always wear kitchen gloves or the cheap dollar store plastic gloves when working in the garden - particularly around ground ivy like you have. I'm highly allergic to this particular ground cover. Simply unscrew the outer part surrounding the condition motor and pull out any plants that are attached. Then pull out all the ground cover around the conditioner (or do the pulling in reverse order). After, but a couple of bags of big good-looking rocks at your garden store or Lowes/Home Depot and put a good wide layer around the air conditioner. If any weeds grow in the area, they're the easy kind to pull out - but the ground ivy is a runner and you should get rid of all of it. Hope this helps. Arline

I would do what Janice recommends.
