Do we put sand down on the dirt area before or after putting Astro turf down or both? It is used turf from BYU’s football field that we need to shake off the asphalt and sand already in it. It’s then like using outdoor carpet but softer to walk on.

You should put the sand under the turf.

There's no need to add sand first, unless you have Rocky soil.

Yes yes yes! land settles and your liner will settled in.. you wil want it all to be smooth and soft so as not to puncture your lining. Also for drainage. :)

Yes, it will help to keep the pool from damage, make it easier to level, and more comfortable to walk on.

Do not use AstroTurf. If it does get wet, it will get moldy, causing foul odor, and premature pool floor failure. Sand is perfect. Use mason sand, several inches thick.

Ok, that will work. I was going to add the AstroTurf under my pool, before I saw how one looked after taking another pool down. The sand is perfect alone, as long as you have enough people during the setup. Good luck.

My in laws did not use sand. They did compact the soil really well though before putting the pool on top. They put a multi level deck across two sides so it looks like an in ground pool from the house.

We have rocky ground here. Took three truckloads of rocks out. Can’t put right on the ground.

absolutely sand..keeps the turf from mildew and mold underneath it.

If you do use sand, make sure it is the white river sand that looks like it came from a beach. I work at a quarry and a lot of folks want to use our sand. Quarry sand is usually just granite or limestone crushed down into sand. That means sharp sand. So you need a smooth sand like the river sand or play sand. A lot of times concrete companies will sell a load of this type of sand.

I would not use sand, because it is abrasive and could wear down your liner. use vermiculite. IT IS SOFT, BUT NOT ABRASIVE.

vermiculite is great makes your pool liner last a very long time!!!! 23 years for our pool that is 16 by 32,, with a deep end

We have sand under our pool. Also treat the sand with an insecticide to prevent critters from biting through the liner to get water.

I would strongly recommend to! The reason I am saying this is keeping the turf from mildew and mold underneath it, and that is also like a normal habitat for sand to be near water. Anyway, that is not something that should concern you the most. I would rather think about water quality in your pool. A lot of people think that getting a pool is like building or putting it, filling it with water and it’s done. Actually, you can read here https://poolcareschool.com/best-pool-shock/ that everything is not that easy. You have to take care of your water quality if you want your health quality not to be damaged.
