We rent and our kitchen cabinets have marks from other renters and dirty and i was wondering what to use to make them look shiney? I have Murphy's Oil Soap do you think that would be to strong to use?

  • Nope, go for it! Dawn dish soap works and so does vinegar and water.

You should dilute it (I think it says so on the bottle). I use Orange Glo. It cleans well and smells good. If super dirty, mix a baking soda & peroxide paste then scrub with a super soft child's toothbrush. Wipe clean and then Orange Glo.

Judy, it depends on the finish, but Murphys is extremely alkali. I recommend and so do most woodworkers, using dish detergent instead. It is neutral and won't be as damaging.

I use a very dilute amount, maybe 4 drops in a gallon, and clean with that. (no rinsing necessary) For bad spots, use a Mr Clean sponge sparingly. To bring up shine, use orange oil or Amish wood milk. They will shine like new!

    1. Detergent: you can use any oil/grease cutting dish or laundry detergent and water to clean your wood cabinets. ... Dawn is great

    2. Vinegar: If you don't have liquid-based detergents, vinegar and water is a great cleaner

    3. Baking Soda: The hardest stains should be confronted with baking soda.

To clean wood cabinets with Murphy's oil soap, you can follow these steps:

    1. Dilute the Murphy's oil soap with water according to the instructions on the bottle.
    2. Dip a soft cloth or sponge into the solution and wring out the excess liquid.
    3. Gently wipe the wood cabinets with the damp cloth, making sure not to oversaturate the wood.
    4. Wipe the cabinets again with a clean, damp cloth to remove any soap residue.
    5. Dry the cabinets thoroughly with a clean, dry cloth.
