How do i make something out of a grandfather clock ?

Hi Kristal, I would remove all the guts from the clock then replace the clock face with glass. In the top part I would add a shelf to make a small display area then shelves all the way down inside the clock. Paint the entire clock a beautiful color and if needed add a stencil to the front. If there is no hope to repair the clock, You might want to turn it into a lighted curio cabinet.

I just went and looked over our cabinet and it seems there it is very substantially made so you could easily add shelves. I would use glass shelves.

Drill holes like the ones used in bookshelves, then get a pack of shelf pins that plug into the hole leaving a flange on which to rest the shelf. You will need 2 on each side for every shelf...one near the front and one near the back of the cabinet. If you need to put in a brace into which to drill for shelves, use glue and screw this in from the inside toward the outside...then drill holes for your shelf bracket. You can have the shelves cut for you.

Drill a hold at the top for a light kit...one of those small ones used under kitchen cabinets would be perfect.

Then paint the entire cabinet with Chalk Paint. Once the paint is dried, put in the light and shelves.

I have seen many people completely gut out the clock then paint and distress them for a decor piece. Or, if it's functioning, painting and using as it is intended.
