9 inch linoleum floor tile

This week I was removing a layer of old flooring in an attempt to get to the wood underneath. Turns out there is another lady Ayer of of Red and White checked floor tile under the the underlayment for the first layer that was nailed down to this. Other then a few bail holes it cleans up and is rather pretty. The question was raised over asbestos. Nothing is crumbling or disintegrated. Would it be possible to put a few layers of poly over it to seal it. I do not have funds to remove it and feel after much reading that disturbing it and the underlayment is probably more of a threat. This old kitchen is actually going to be my bedroom. I don't really use rugs or carpets because I have pets.

    first, find out if they actually contain asbestos .. https://inspectapedia.com/hazmat/Asbestos-Floor-Tile-Identification.php and then you can make an informed decision about the next step -- but you can paint them -- https://www.hunker.com/13402324/can-i-paint-over-asbestos-floor-tiles just be sure to do the right Prep work, and use the right kind of paint ... every other solution I researched recommended padding/carpet

      Thanks, same here on carpet and painting would be out with animals. I honestly can't afford to even test right now - long story, but I think assuming for now they are is the best deal and using caution. Hopefully down the road I can test. In all honesty they looked like they were fairly new when covered up. And reading on it, it's only if you start ripping them up or they are crumbling that puts the stuff in the air. So that in essence makes them safe for now. Guess we will see!! Thank you!

    I have found really inexpensive sheet ( roll ) vinyl in carpet stores -- as 'remnants' from larger jobs, as well as in WalMart and some home improvement centers --- choices of color/pattern isn't always great -- but it can be put down with double faced tape ( which has an amazing hold!! );

    I've got an enclosed car port that I use for my 'craft' room, junk/storage, my chest freezer, washer/dryer, etc. are all out there -- and I didn't like the concrete floor --- have used these vinyl 'scraps' for years ... maybe three times in the 40 years I've been in the house ... better than concrete! and it would give you a 'new' look as well as covering those tiles --
