Most of the candles are too strong and hurts my nose. Air fresheners are not an option for me either. I just love the smell of the mountains. I live in the desert. LOL

Use an essential oil diffuser. You can control the intensity of the scent based on how much oil you add to the water.

If you have pets check to see what oils may be harmful to them, like lemon. Use real essences. They cost more than artifical oils but definately worth the $ for a natural smell.

An old trick was to put a drop of essential oil on a warm light bulb to release the scent.

Another would be to put a drop or two of the pine scent into a spray bottle with a fine mist and warm water. Just spray as much as you like. You might try cedar oil as I don't find it as strong as pine.

I think I can use this for my bedroom and bath.

      Thank you for your help,

It might control the smell by using the oil on cotton balls where you can put on the amount that works for you.

Anytime a scent is too strong [or too weak, or not good for outdoor insect repellents uses, for that matter] you can yet add flakes of the candle to unscented candles, or to create your own original scents, blend two or more including scented with unscented or parrafin, by melting these on a stove in either

    A. a coffee can or large Dole Pineapple Juice Container.

    B. even an old del monte fruit can will do

    C. Placing flakes of scented with unscented into any glass container (such as Mason Jars), you heat by same ways you would preserve applesauce or jam.

And you follow the following easy steps:

    1. Place a wet old rag or sponge at the base of the old can or pot as Listed in A. Or in a Large Pot Like you would when Making jam or jelly or preserves.

    2. Add water.

    3. Gently Place your glass container with Mixed Flakes atop the sponge.

    4. Boil the water until the wax melts down.

5.A Add any additional spices or ingredients to the hot wax [Such as: Irish Spring, KFC Spices, Mustard Salt, Cinammon, Vanilla, Oregano, Celantro, Mace, Citron, Citronella or Allspice]

5.B. Lemon, Lime, and Orange Zest, and other Procured on wax paper: Dried Nectar and Juice flakes may add to blend colors and add scents by chafing these off of the wax paper with the dullside of a plastic knife, sorta like zest.

5.C. Any detergents, deodorants or non-aerosol perfumes should Add Last [Gain, Myrrh, Obsession, Jean Natè, Other Liquid Perfumes]

5.D Stir those with the handle end of a wooden spoon [that is easier to clean than the spoon end]

    6. If you want to place decorative pebbles as Glow in the dark stones, [or glow in the dark novelty bubble gum, rolled on wax paper after wetting, let sit until hardened] you add those elements when the wax is most hot before adding the wick.

    7. Turn off the heat, Insert any necessary wick with optional wick add-ons, [to make special flames, effects, time delayed mini-pyrotechnics, etc...by matchstick heads, or sparkler effects and other: 'special tie-to-wick add-ons' as involve in making graded 'Roman candles'], let settle and cool.

8.A.For more porous wax, add 1 tsp baking soda or Bath-grade Scented Epsom Salts per 8 ounces, and cool fast in a mini-fridge rather than at room temperature.

8.B For Swifter Burning Wax, add a small amount of Zippo Lighter Fluid, or Premium Butane 1/2 tsp per 8 oz. While it cools, and before it sets, and Stir with a Disposable Plastic Knife.

    9. After the wax and water cools, you may need to cut off any unsightly excesses above the 'imaginary fill line'.

    10. For Multidirectional or Spiralling Wick, you need Pour the hot wax in the glass Container in Phases.

    It is very easy.

You can do this in a firepit, fireplace or on your stove, or if you have an outdoor outlet, on a Portable Burner.

To accellerate the melt, you can also melt the unscented wax in your microwave on Defrost.

You should try using an essential oil diffuser! They make pine essential oil as well as cedarwood oil! They also have amazing benefits! You have control over the amount of essential oil drops you add to the diffuser so if candles are too overwhelming then add less drops.
