Attach 2 eye bolts to ceiling. Then stretch heavy wire across area. Use clips to attach long sheer curtain, or any material she chooses. Easy to remove or change later.

We had this similar problem in one place we lived. We bought 2 room dividers, the expandable screens that you can buy at most any flea market. We had a silk screen one and a wooden one. If you don't have that in your budget shelves can even divide your room! A big piece of furniture like a hutch or book shelf. There are many ways to divide the room up without too much problem. Best wishes to you!!

Do you have a long tension rod like used for shower curtains in tub surrounds? Inexpensive at Big Box Stores. They will support a bit of weight, do not require screws or nails to hang, easy to install and easy to take down. I have a NEVER used bathroom...instead of an ugly shower curtain I used expensive drapes on the shower curtain rod. This may provide her some space definition with a touch of decoration that she can reuse in a future space and is totally adaptable to her budget.

For just space definition but not privacy or light blocking...same tension rod...burlap or other fabric in 2" / 3" strips from the ceiling height to the floor...dollar store picture frames even with just plastic fronts rather than glass...2 frames back to back with the ribbon/burlap/fabric strip hot glued in between. She can display photos, artworks, poems, or just sheets of colored paper in the frames.

How about good old fashioned "hippy beads"...she could do her own with any string and any beads and tie them on the curtain rod. Could use found objects like pine cones or sea shells.

There are tension rods that span over 72 inches. They hold quite a bit but I would go with a sheet where the top hem is deep enough to go over the rod or curtain clamp hooks could work to slide the curtain easily.

    Hi there.

Have you thought of open bookshelves??

This will also maximize space, by giving you "storage" as well as a divider.

Set bookshelves perpendicular to a wall to divide living areas and add valuable storage space in her studio apartment.

The bookshelves don’t have to stretch to the ceiling, but for the sake of illusion and the extra room, go tall.

You could then, if needed, hang curtains at the back of the bookshelves to give that extra privacy??

    Hope this helps...

72 " tension rods might work, but need to be heavy duty. If curtains bow in the middle, maybe use another tension rod vertically to support it ? I saw something called a drywall holder that presses drywall against the ceiling for nailing. Why couldn't something like that be used as a vertical support? If your daughter needs storage, maybe bookcases with the tension rod curtain in between? Or use one bookcase and tension rod to the wall? Folding screens are nice too..... Love the challenges of a studio apt!

Is she trying to make a sleeping area? Here are two Ikea favorites.... the Kallax room divider gives seperation and lots of storage and places to display your favorite items, comes in several colors.... https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70301537/#/50360146

Then there is the folding screen, I think Target has the best selection.... https://www.target.com/s?searchTerm=folding+screen+room+dividers&category=0%7CAll%7Cmatchallpartial%7Call+categories&tref=typeahead%7Cterm%7C0%7Cfolding+screen+room+dividers%7C%7C%7Cservice
