Many years ago people used upholstery pins. I had a need for them and couldn't find them anywhere locally, but I did find them online. They are a clear colored "pin" that has a spiral "pin" that you twist into the upholstery.
I found some online in several places but TrueValue had the best picture so you can see exactly what they look like. I would start by putting them in the bottom & top "corner" then see if you need them in the middle of the bottom or top. They should help keep the slipcover on the sofa. If you have a local TrueValue they might have them in-store. I also saw and ad from Walmart so they might have them too. If not, you can google ' Upholstery Twist Pins ' for other online options.
Make sure you use a long dowel stuffed into the back crease of the seat cushions and the back rest and also short dowels on the sides for the arms. This should help. My advise after many tries is don't use slipcovers.
Use a wooden dowel the length of the sofa seat cushions, put the cover on, then put your dowel over the fabric and shove it down behind the seat cushions.
If you place a thin layer of foam on each seat then lay cover over it should stay put! If not you can buy a sort of tacky fabric meant to keep rugs in place and use that, or there is a spray I believe you may be able to find. Best of luck.

Sheet garters may work, they are found by the sheets in most stores.
