How to attach faux shutters to vinyl or aluminum siding?

I know there is the concern with water getting in. What is the proper way to attach shutters?

    You can screw them in, but you have to make absolutely certain that you caulk around the screws. Put a nice sized dollop of caulk around the screws before the shutter hits against the siding. Make sure you use stainless steel screws or you might end up with black streaks running down the siding. Stainless steel screws are more expensive than regular screws, but they are essential for this job.

    We didn’t have any problems when we bought our vinyl shutters at Menard’s to replace the old wood shutters. We had the roofing and gutter guys put them up where we had removed, cleaned and patched where the old shutters were (I know, but they were here!!). We have aluminum siding, sorry to say...
