As long as the extension cords is rated for 15 amps or better I see no problem.
Have you thought of using electric thermal pipe wrap? It's used to prevent pipes from freezing. Maybe stick behind the gutter if you have aluminum trim work, tape on the bottom of the gutter (unsightly), or you could possibly just straighten it out and place it in the gutter. Draping the cord out and under the gutter. Ensure it is a waterproof connection and there is nothing to chafe the wires. Energize the circuit as needed.
