Summer is over, and the little garden on my spa tub shelf was pooped out. I asked my granddaughter to help me revive the space for her and my other little granddaughter. I hope this inspires you to do something with your tub shelf, or to spend time with your family doing a project.

Sweet Claire is being the set fixer and demonstrator today. Step 1 is to remove all the pots, jars and planters.

Step 2. After all the summer garden things were removed, Claire carefully rolled the long blue plastic tablecloth I had put down last spring to protect the shelf from water damage and dirt. Worked perfectly.
Step 3. Bring in your collectibles, art work, or, in our cases, assorted blankets, throws, and decorative cushions.

Step 4. Display your collection. Claire stacked and smoothed the blankets and throws, then the pillows with her own design.
Step 5. Utilize the Space. Claire caught on that this space was to be a book nook for the two girls. Specifically, Claire’s Book Nook and Kayla’s Book Nook. (We need to make signs!) Claire got her diary and spent time writing and drawing in her Nook.
Step 6. Add finishing touches. Claire got one of the plastic trays for holding plant pots, put rocks we’ve collected in two candle glasses, lined the center of the plastic holder with aluminum foil to reflect light, and placed a battery tea light in the center. Voila! A lighting feature! She also placed some books, coloring books, and writing materials for each girl to help divide the space and to be handy. It will be a great surprise for her sister.
Step 7. Show it off. Claire wanted to do a video herself to show the dual Book Nooks. I’ve enjoyed being the originator, director, producer and head of photography. And I have truly enjoyed having Claire in all her capacity.

Neat project! I have the same tub but my ledge or shelf is not that wide. I put plants around mine, mostly succulents. So if I forget to water they don't die on me.

Liliana, when we bought this house, one of the first things I bought was three discounted ferns. I babied them, turned a different side to the sun each day. By the end of summer, my scrawny ferns filled the whole shelf. They lasted three years, mostly because I ignored them for a month at a time. But I was so proud of that bathroom window. Thank you for admiring it now. I can’t get in and out of the tub safely anymore. So getting my granddaughters involved is my pleasing gift to myself. ☺️
