How to get paint out of carpet?

We were painting our dining room and my husband knocked the paint can over and left a large puddle of paint on the carpet. I’ve sopped up a lot of the paint but a large spot remains. Any suggestions on how to remove paint from the carpet?

    Try fingernail polish remover.

You could try Mineral Spirits from the paint department, but I can't say that it won't take the color out of the rest of the carpet too.

Cover the area with a large cotton towel, then pour HYDROGEN peroxide all over the towel. Let sit for at least 1/2 hour. You may have to treat more than once. Good luck!!

There are stain removers on the market that say paint. One was SO 2 0r s20. It took craft paint off my white rug that had been on there for a couple years. Look on Amazon for stain removers and look at what the do. Put paint remover off carpet in your search engine.

I would try Murphy Oil soap as it will remove paint that has got hard in brushes, and I am sure that it will do the trick with hurting your carpet

I recall seeing a product that softens latex paint. Once soft it can be scraped off then shampooed.....look for it in the paint store.

Hi, i had this happen and if it's water base paint you can use soapy water. It does take some work but it comes out. If it is stained in there try a floor steamer first and then some soapy water. I used Dawn soap.

I’m using your suggestion along with rubbing alcohol. Working but slow going. Thanks for advice.

Go to the paint department and buy a product meant for this. One brand is Oops, I believe. Meanwhile, keep sopping paint up as much as you can.

If you use Dawn, only use the Blue as the others are not as good.

Saturate with rubbing alcohol and blot. Do not rub. Repeat ig needed. Got blue paint out of a beige carpet 100%. Ive also gotten paint out of clothing with this! No need for expensive removers.

I would caution the use of peroxide as it is a lightener.

I tried this and it is working but very slowly. Thanks for advice.

Alcohol will work but will also weaken the fibers of your carpet. Do you have an extra piece of carpet that you can use? If so cut out the area where the paint spilled and get carpet tape and insert.

Goo Gone works for latex paint. My daughter "painted" our new carpet and Goo Gone worked wonders.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I used both blue dawn and water plus rubbing alcohol. This combo got it almost all out.

Hi Sue, so sorry to hear that. For the tough to remove the stain, mix 2 tablespoons of household ammonia and 1 cup of water. Blot the mixture onto the stain and then apply a few layers of plain (no printing) paper towels to the spill and weight down with a flat heavy object for a day or so. Repeat if necessary.

That can be an awful mess, so frustrating, blotting is important and not rubbing it into the carpet fibers. You did just right with the blue dawn and water.

Dawn dish liquid and hot water. Vacuum with a shop vac.
