Basil ready?

I planted some basil and it's growing nice. Is it ready to be picked? Should I move it to the ground? How does it look?

It looks great, use clippings off it as you need, or even freeze or dehydrate some if you like. I keep dehydrated basil all year round. Containers are great, they can be brought inside in the winter. If you clip some off, it just grows right back. I take the top 1/3 off when I do it (tender part).

Looks great. As long as its growing so well, no need to move it to the ground. You can start picking just the leaves from the bottom up. If it starts to flower, pinch that out to encourage continued growth.

Seems to be growing great right where it is. Pinch middle of plants so they won't flower and use it now. One plant I have never been able to grow unless someone starts it for me and I get it in a good size pot. I'm Italian and use basil in everything.

  • Gorgeous basil! Time to enjoy!

I would pick it now (cut pieces - let more grow from that). If it gets too tall it starts to get leggy and changes taste.

Yes! I'd cut some and use it with good tomatoes and provolone cheese, italian dressing capresse salad

Keep cutting or they will not produce.....start at the top and take some off and use.
