There are some questions I need answered before I can give you any real advice. How much higher do you want the ceiling to be, are you wanting something like a vaulted ceiling, what type of ceiling do you want (drywall, paneling, tongue and groove,etc.).

Well, here's the story.....it's an older manufactured home that has glued finger jointed trusses that have dried out. Absolutely NO plywood, can't walk on the roof so repairs have to be made from the inside out. I love a challenge and thought why not raise the ceiling a foot or create a cathedral style if the whole house has to be done. I've seen new roofs being installed over the existing roof, but then the interior is still a problem. I only want to do this once and want to do it right. Thanks for responding. I appreciate it.

Manufactured homes are built entirely different from a stick built home. The truss and rafter system you have in your MH is what you are stuck with, unless you plan on spending a great deal of money to have it re-done you are locked into what is currently there.

Yup, already had to repair the living room section of the home. The original glued finger jointed sections have dried out and fallen apart. Absolutely NO plywood, just metal and a roof over. Can't even walk on the roof. I don't mind the hard work, it's like puzzle and a wonderful challenge, but I'd like advice from someone who might have made similar repairs. Thanks for responding.

Not something that can be easily done. You are dealing with changing the structural integrity of the of the home. Not something that should be attempted.

I like your spunk! I have no doubt you’ll get your raised ceiling.

Diana, If the MH is an older model and in that bad of shape, have you looked into buying a used newer unit. you could probably find one for the amount of money spent on your proposed repairs and remodeling.

The MH is a 24x56 1976 Buddy model and is in good shape with decent bones. Other than the roofing issue, everything is good with only several changes/replacements over the last 6 years. Our plans are to replace and secure a solid roofing structure this fall. Thank you for your advice and comments. I appreciate your time.
