Cleaning and using old food grinder

I have an old metal food grinder that had a little rust on it , I used an SOS pad on the pieces to remove the rust and washed and rinsed it then put in the over at 300 for 20 minuets to dry it. My question is, is it safe to use after having rusted?

long ago people kept the rust on their pans because it was a good source of iron, and in some countries they still add rusted pieces to their cooking to get iron, so yes it is safe to use and I bet your grinder works better than a new one, hope this helps xx

Rust is no problem. You have cleaned it well. Even if there were still rust on it that would not harm you but would just have a bad taste. To prevent more rust put it someplace where it is very dry. You could also put some cooking oil on a paper towel and wipe it all over. Use another dry towel and wipe down again.

    Vinegar

Cyn offers great advice. Put the rusted pieces in a container with enough vinegar to submerge the item. The rust should flake off after 48 hours, using a sharp edged tool.
