I and doing it now. Hang plastic so dust doesn't flow into other rooms. Open windows and set up fan to blow outside. Lay drop cloth on floor, and good heavy duty cardboard yo protect your floors. Have two metal trash cans or heavy duty boxes. Watch for those nails in the lathe and in the mess on the floor.use disposable dust masks so you don't breath in the chalky dust.

I use sledge hammer, took our time on plaster. We used most plaster for landfill along our fence as our trash recycler didn't appreciate all the loads. Once the paster was down; we ripped off lathe.

Then we applied caulk to fill any gaps.

I stapled moisture barrier fabric. (Home depot) . Then insulation and wallboard.

I am slowly doing one room at a time. I don't really know what your question is. It is not hard to do. I am a novice and not young. Hubby cuts the wallboard and uses special screws to install the pieces. I go through with the compound after he's done. So I am doing a most of work and it can be physicalky draing but we are saving , literally, thousands doing it ourselves and on heating and airconditioning costs.

If you like the look of plaster there are things you can do to make wallboard look like plaster.

Hubby started knocking down the plaster ceiling because it was cracking. He borrowed a hard hat because some fell in large pieces. Then he is going to put up wall board. He bought a scaffold at auction for $20 so he saved a lot there. When we are done he will sell it to get the money back.

It is worth it. If you have a group of guys you can do a room in a weekend. You need basic tools for cutting wall board, insulation, moisture barrier fabric (optional). Drill for screwing in wall board. Joint compound applicators. Other items I mentioned

You can take a small crowbar or a durable spatula and forth) Described how I did it on www.housexpertom.com If that doesn’t work out, write in the comments, I will answer.

And don't forget about the airways. Because it is very dusty and dirty. It is better to wear a mask or wrap your face with a T-shirt or cloth;)
