How to clear white containers of writing without acetone?

I would like to reuse white containers ie large yoghurt pots that have printed writing on them. I have read about using acetone or nail vanish remover, but would prefer something not so toxic if possible. Any ideas please.

Have you tried rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer? Make sure you've peeled off any labels first.
