I’ve wanted a firepit for a while but the pits sold in stores were smaller than what I wanted. I saw different stones at the hardware store but didn’t care for the color options. After a bit of research, I discovered concrete stain and I saw I had many options colorwise.
These are the materials I used. I also used a staining pad I also purchased at the hardware store.
After determining the size of the pit, I had to decide how many paver to lay on the ground as the base. Once the paver were laid out, my helper and I put sand under them to make them level.
I put a sample of each color on a block so that I could determine which colors to use.
I started with a base color all over the block.
FIY-This brand, Vivid, does contain acid, be SURE to follow all safety precautions when using this product.
After the base coat dried, I then applied the other colors randomly. I wanted the look of a mixture of colors.
After drying, I applied a sealant. The sealant is available in a wet finish or matte finish. I liked the wet look so that is what I used.
I stained the pavers a light solid color instead of leaving them gray. Once every thing was dry, we stacked the blocks leaving a tiny gap between them so that air circulates when the fire burns.
I like the color, it looks much better than light gray.
