We were recently approached by a Customer that had specifics in mind for their headboard order but was working with a very limited budget. We were asked to make a headboard with grays and lighter colors using reclaimed wood.

Using barn wood was out of the question due to the cost.

We instead decided to use sections of an old fence to make this happen.
We first started with a 3/4" 4x8 sheet of plywood to use as the backer. We painted the backer and legs gray by Customer request. The legs are made by cutting a eight foot 2x4 in half then attaching an additional 2x4 to the front according to the mattress height.

Using clamps we make the legs flush with the outside of the backer board then using 2" heavy-duty screws we attach the legs.
We first cut the old fence apart picking certain sections of the planks to use based on colors.

When assembling the headboard we want to make sure that the pieces of wood, (specifically the colors) are balanced.
After attaching the boards with an air-powered staple gun we buffed in a finishing wax to seal and condition the wood. This is a pic of the final project. The Customer was very happy!
