Master bathroom refresh for a newly single gal, how I’m making myself my own luxury retreat on the second floor of my home. If you’ve ever checked out any of my Inspiration Boards then you know I am in love with the natural look and textures of bohemian interior design. With both my master bedroom, and now my bathroom, my challenge was: how could I give myself the bohemian look while still staying true to my 100 year old farmhouse?
I’ve found now that I’m alone here I am much more spontaneous and daring when it comes to my home and my decor. I’m not quite calling it “flying-by-the-seat-of-my-pants” but I am most certainly following my heart without question.
I saw the rug at an antique mall and I loved it so I bought it and I put it here in my master bathroom cause I loved that too. Same with the shower curtain and now, EVERYTHING in this room that I’ve added.
All four of the containers the plants are in came either from the barn or somewhere in this old house when I was renovating it. The big crazy plant in the window was just a few little cuttings that my best friend (my cousin Rachie) gave me that I plopped into an old enamelware pan of my Grandma’s.

I showed you guys how I made my own custom canvas prints. They make me smile literally every time I see them and they were SO easy to do!
The lamp and shade were a new purchase I made from Walmart many years ago.
The old magazine rack came from my grandparents that I painted in gloss black rustoleum. (It includes a little cedar lined cubby which is SO handy by the commode.)
The shelf gave me some much needed storage by my tub. Now I have a place to set shampoo, conditioner, bath salts, candles etc. I purchased some wide mouth mason jar lids off of Amazon that gave all my jars a more cohesive look. At first I was going to spray paint them in chrome but I think the white looks fine. I had only “big” wide mouth jars so my mom let me steal a smaller one from her just for the Q tips lol.
I’ve mentioned many times that this double slipper bathtub was a gift to myself during the renovation. My one splurge for me that I didn’t “need” but really just WANTED. Honestly I didn’t expect to use it much but then I discovered that the shape of the tub and the location of the faucet makes it perfect for washing my hair.
So now I use it often for that purpose and also, of course, at least a couple of times a month I spoil myself with a long glorious soak generally accompanied by a glass (or three) of wine.
The old buffet was one of my mom’s first EVER furniture purchases when she moved out of this house when she was nineteen! I love it as my master bathroom vanity: SO much storage.
On the buffet you can see the project I posted about a couple weeks ago. My two tiered stand that I made out of thrift store items!
I bought the wicker baskets that are under my vanity at my local Ben Franklin (Sadly I think my town literally has one of the very last stores.)
The shower curtain I had added to my Amazon Wishlist before my bday this last February and it was given to me from Rachie as well! I knew it would be just perfect in my master bathroom with the new rug.
I didn’t realize just how much my best friend contributed to this space lol I have gifts in here from my aunt, my mom, my best friend Rachel and so much here left to me from my Grandma too. No wonder it makes me happy every time I come in here!
The taller of the two stools was a new purchase on Amazon (yet another gift for my bday years ago) the other stool comes with an awesome story.
I have a neighbor whom I ran into at the post office one day last summer and she said, “Oh I left something of your Grandpa’s on your front porch!” I got home and this little three legged milking stool was waiting for me. What a wonderful gift she gave me by sending it back home! You see, this was my grandparents milk farm where they raised and milked Jersey cows and my grandpa made several of these after they retired to wood working.
Its the perfect height for a book and a glass of wine.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I do believe that I may just have to take myself a bath!
