Anthropologie has so many gorgeous, high end products! They also have prices that are out of my budget. But, with a little interpretation, anyone can be inspired to create something that is pretty, functional, and affordable. I wanted a couple of serving pieces, so I spent some time admiring (drooling over) the gorgeous pieces on the Anthropologie web site. I wanted a two tier server and a gorgeous bowl server like I saw there. But, I wanted them for future tea parties with my granddaughter, so I preferred less price and unbreakable. Here is my take on the Colorado footed bowl and two-tier plate server.
First I went to the dollar store, because I wanted some pretty dishes and glasses "cheap". I found a bowl, two plates two glasses, and a pretty glass container for a total of six dollars.
The stickers on the bottom usually peel off fairly easily. If they are stubborn, run some hot water on it and let it sit for a few minutes. The paper label will come off. There usually isn't any residue, but, if there is, you can clean it off with a little Goo Gone or some baking soda worked into the residue and then rinsed.
Then I started playing around with the plates. cups, and glass. I always do this, even if I have something specific in mind, so that I can see if a variation will look or work better.
Here is the bowl and glass. I already had the E-6000 that I was going to use, but, you can pick up a tube of it at Walmart for less than five dollars. I decided to turn the glass upside down, so that I could put a small light under the opening or a flower. I had thought about putting something in the glass right side up, but, it gives you more surface to glue, with the glass upside down and the option of putting something under it.
I decided to put just one container between the two plates for the cake or cupcake server. You could add the clear glass container on top, if you wanted to use it for flowers, decorative items, toothpicks, etc. I decided to leave it off. If you have plates you could use, glasses, or candlesticks that will keep your materials under $5. If you buy everything, including the glue, you'll spend less than $10.
Tea anyone?

Are the cookies included with the tea invite?! We could make things like this all day long! Love'em and the green is so pretty!
