Has anyone any " real ideas" for a sewing/craft room???

I have just moved my sewing machine and crafty bits into a small room which also houses toys for my 6 grandchildren. I've looked at rooms on Pintrest and here on Hometalk. There are lovely examples of rooms which in my mind must be for professional use. I've come to that conclusion because the amount of supplies in these craft rooms could not possibly be for the hobby crafter. There are reams and bolts of paper and fabrics, and gazillions beads, buttons, glitter, paint, ect.. So I'm looking for any ideas which I could use as inspiration for my little sewing crafting/ toy room. Not an advertisement for IKEA storage solutions, or other major storage store. Just something REAL yet pretty, to store the few pieces of supplies I have, which I'm confident I will use in this lifetime as a hobby crafter. Thank you for for any ideas.✂📌🎨

Cheap bookcases and cubes from Big Lots,Walmart or Target will look nice and you can can configure them any way you like. I just did a spare room in white Target bookcases for about $65.00. Dining room 3 bookcases for a wall unit also $65.00.

Since this is a dual usage room, I'd have shelving for crafts and materials and shelving for toys. Use shoe boxes or clear tubs to keep things organized. A big table in the center for games and or crafts would also be a must. Remember, the kids will grow and enjoy doing crafts with you.

Thank you Sal. I do like little tubs of buttons and bits. ( kept well out of reach from fiddley fingers.. )

First of all consider your grandchildren's ages. If they are younger than 10 years old you need to consider their safety for the storage as young fingers can easily find their way into sharp pointy things. If so will you be using your closet to store clothing? If not you can store your sewing notions in those plastic drawers (with caster feet) and roll them out when ever you need to. Maybe purchase a shelving unit that would be able to store plastic bin on the lower shelf to keep their toys in (may colour co-ordinate or have each child label them) and inform them that you too will have a bin (on the top shelf)!

Thank you Diane. I always make sure safety is first. I like your suggestions. Thanks again.

Hi Sandra. For a small scale crafting and sewing area, you can use a piece of 3/4 inch plywood, to attach between two bookshelves. Add a piece of 1x2 across the front, paint or stain as desired. Make sure they are attached to the wall as well for safety. You can add a third bookshelf and a lowered plywood "desk" for the grandkids to use. Add in your favorite storage containers and bins, etc.

Organization is key - and will be different for every person, depending on their storage space, supplies, use, and situation. I wrote a free email mini course for my blog readers to tackle this very problem. If you're interested, you can sign up here. It's a simple, 5-day course, and there's no strings attached! :)
