How do I put flooring in my bedroom?

and what is the best type for a bedroom? Wood or vinyl? Our baby girl Zoey had diabetes and was incontinent and was urinating all over our carpet so we had to rip it out. Unfortunately we had to put her down after having her for fifteen years and now I have to put in new flooring in.

That's a personal choice. Real wood floors are more expensive than laminate, but the laminate they have now is really beautiful. Take a walk through the flooring department of your local home improvement store and see what you like.
So sorry to hear about Zoey...They do steal our hearts...

Personally, carpet is my first choice in a bedroom. But would go with wood. May cost more but is nicer. Just my 2 cents.

I suggest that you get a floor that can be wet-mopped frequently in case you decide to get another pet - like a vinyl that looks like tile (still stylish) or a real tile/travertine floor.

  Vanessa....this isn't a DIY response for your floor but one from someone who has been through what you've been through (recently, too...I lost a 15 year old shepherd and 19 year old tabby...pretty much at the same time)....
  
  One of the best ways to honor the love and life of your pet is to support others in shelters waiting for new homes. You can volunteer to walk them or feed them or just collect food and blankets and old towels for their shelter. Any little bit helps. I work at one and can tell you that I started there because of my losses...and it really helped me.
  
  You can't replace your pet but you can honor its life by helping other pets in need. And someday you may just think it's time to help another little one that needs you...

So sorry for the loss of your fur baby! Ours is getting old too so I have this to go through!

We put down Bruce Laminate (Golden Oak) back in 2005 and it is as pretty as it was the day it went down and we have a 65 lb. lab...who loves to be out in the rain and bring it in. Of course we do dry her off but her nails do no scratch it.

Everyone is putting down dark floor...my daughter has it and hates it...it shows every speck...my Golden Oak does not even show coffee stains!

We then put it in the kitchen, back foyer and master bedroom, dressing room and bath downstairs in 2010...still love it!!!

  Jeanette, she was a boxer Rhodesian ridgeback. She was my baby. Miss her terribly. Thank you so much for your reply. I am not one for dark flooring especially a bedroom. Is there anywhere special to look at the Bruce Laminate. ( Home Depot, Lowe’s or a special flooring place) Definitely good to know that it holds up to wear and tear. It must be good if you put it in other parts of your home. Thanks again

  HINTS:
  1 - Before you put down anything, clean the sub-flooring if there are pet stains...then paint all spots with Kilz before you put down anything.
  
  2 - if putting it down on a slab floor, you may have to use leveling compound to make sure you don't have dips in the slab. When builders build out slabs, they use carpet so they don't have to make sure concrete pour is level.
  
  3 - Also, instead of buying quarter round and worrying with staining it and varnishing it, we bought the PERGO quarter round. It is about 1/3 more expensive, but well worth it! Can you imagine the time it takes to lay out quarter round, stain, and then a couple of coats of varnish?
  
  Home Depot does carry Bruce in the lighter colors and I am sure other flooring companies do too. MAKE SURE YOU PUT DOWN THE QUIET PAD, NOT JUST THE THIN SHEET OF FOAM!!!! This cuts out that hollow sound that flooring can have. It is a little more expensive, but well worth it.
  
  My brother-in-law taught my husband and son on the den and then they put down the other rooms! Hubs and son have also installed it in the downstairs of 2 condos for friends!
  
  I have had people complain about this flooring developing cracks between the boards, etc., but we have never adjusted ours nearly 14 years we have had it down...looks PERFECT!
  
  Sometimes doing the job yourself insures a better job!
