How to keep weeds from growing under my deck?

This area is too tight for an old person to get under to clean out weeds, etc. Any suggestions?

I have a large front porch and a smaller porch in the back. I haven't been bothered with weeds--I think because not much sunlight gets to the ground beneath them. Do you have weeds coming up through the decking, or are you just concerned they might?

Yes growing up thru. Due to a very wet season. They are everywhere under decking.

I’ve just had to solve this problem for a client last month. We hired a teenager to climb underneath and pull all the weeds out, then I climbed under with a roll of landscape weedblock. I precut the roll to be slightly larger than what I needed but still a manageable size. I pinned in place using landscape spikes so it couldn’t blow away. Being in the Deep South we also had to avoid using wood mulch which makes a lovely home and hiding place for nasty creepy crawlies and we didn’t want to use rubber mulch, though that does come in many colors to compliment your home and landscape. Instead we used stone, a medium sized river rock and then since there is an area that is higher and you can see more of it, we added a few larger rocks for interest. Now it’s a nice clean area with no weeds and should stay that way for a few seasons with minimal maintenance.

We got lucky on that point, the teen was the son of a friend from church and his Mom helped guilt him into helping lol. We paid him $60 for about 3 1/2 hours of hard work so it was worth it to him and still pretty affordable. We purchased the products over the course of several weeks so it wasn’t a huge expense all at one time. Could you check with your church (or one in the neighborhood) to see if the youth group would be interested? Or some middle and high schools have service organizations that students belong to and many states now require students to put in community service hours for graduation. These types of groups also usually have projects they’re trying to raise money for and this would serve dual purposes by providing you with help, they’d be learning about community, cooperation and responsibility towards neighbors, they’d raise money for their projects and probably have some fun doing it. And if an individual was interested, they could earn some money for a new video game.

Roundup will kill the weeds. Make sure not to get on plants you don't want to die.

You might try using one gallon of water , 1/2 pound of table salt and one cup of dish soap with a pump up sprayer .. Cheap- easy and it works for me.. Good Luck

Thank you. I was thinking of trying the vinegar, baking soda and dish soap is this basically the same effect?

I love using natural products so I'm with the vinegar, table salt and dawn dish soap crowd. Works very well for me.
