How do I get my car windows clean?

I feel like I have tried everything from water and microfiber cloths, to the cleaner for my glasses from the optometrist. I think they are clean, and when the sun shines through the streaks show up.

Try white vinegar and don't clean them in the sun.

Thank you Janet. I tried straight vinegar on a microfiber cloth, and it is better than before. I also tried that on my french doors, but they only look bad for a little bit in the morning when the sun beams through, and I keep forgetting to see if they are better.

  • Well I use a squeegee so that doesn't happen. See if this helps?

Use vinegar and wipe with newspapers!

I don't have any newspaper, so I tried straight vinegar on a microfiber cloth. I'm sure part of my problem is being short, and the windshields in cars nowadays are at such an angle that it is hard to reach.

I don't know if I can say this because I am a consultant but Norwex window cloth with just water is the only way I can get them clean--and absolutely no streaks!

I had never heard of Norwex, so googled it. It appears to be a type of microfiber?

Try using the windshield washer. As good inside as outside and you will avoid the fog caused by regular window/glasses cleaners.

What a great idea! I never thought of trying that. Probably good for any glass, too. Heading to the auto supply store when I have time!

Vinegar mixed in water, wiped off with newspaper or a microfiber cloth.

THE GLASS SHOULD ONLY BE CLEANED LIKE THIS :: 1ST BUY A PACK OF "STEEL WOOL #0000" (ONLY USE #0000!!).. COVER DASHBOARD WITH OLD SHEET. PUT DISTILLED WATER MIXED WITH A FEW DROPS OF "GOLD - NON SCENTED PLAIN J&J NO TEARS OLD SCHOOL BRAND BABY SHAMPOO" IN CLEAN SPRAY BOTTLE. SHAKE IT UP AND LIBERALLY SPRAY STEEL WOOL AND WET INNER GLASS . USE THE STEEL WOOL TO CLEAN ENTIRE GLASS INSIDE AND OUT FROM END TO END WITH MEDIUM PRESSURE- DONT MISS ANY SPOTS. DONT ALLOW IT TO DRY & WIPE IT DRY USING PAPER TOWELS FROM FRESH ROLL OF DECENT BRAND PAPER TOWELS. GLIDE THE DRYING TOWEL METHODICALLY THAN TOSS THOSE PAPER TOWELS, AND DRY A 2ND TIME WITH FRESH TOWELS JUST AS GOOD AS YOU DID 1ST TIME. WIPE ONLY SIDE TO SIDE ON INNER AND UP AND DOWN ON OUTER, THIS WAY, YOU CAN EASILY SEE WHERE "ANY" ERRORS & MISSED SPOTS ARE WHEN REVIEWING YOUR FINISHED WORK. IT IS FACT MOST BAD LOOKING WINDOWS ARE CAUSED FROM NOT TRYING HARD ENOUGH & NOT USING ENOUGH EFFORT , AND WATCHING WHAT YOU DO . STOPPING SHORT OF DOING IT CORRECTLY WILL RESULT IN A RE-DO. FORGET EVERY OTHER ANSWER AND USE THIS METHOD. IVE BEEN DOIN AUTO AND FLAT GLASS WORK FOR NEARLY 15 + YEARS. I WOULDNT HAVE POSTED THIS IF DID NOT WORK PERFECTLY. ** Pro tip - When your finished, doing the outside glass, consider using a quality automotive car wax applied then removed on the exterior glass , and it will make the water bead off nicely and preserve your outer windshield for a longer time. Less crap will stick on it.
