Lay landscaping weed-block fabric under the paving stones. The heavier the quality, and the more the pieces overlap, the more effective the fabric will be in preventing weeds from popping up between the stones.

The obvious answer is always landscape fabric, but in truth, landscape fabric alone will not stop weeds completely. question, what are you using to lock the pavers into place? Sand is the usual choice, but eventually it will wash out over time and ants and other pests will find a home in there, so your problems only multiply. There is a product called Polymeric sand that you place in between the pavers and on top of the landscape fabric that will not only lock them into place, it also deters ants and pests, plus weeds have a hard time growing in the material. You can find it at Lowe's or Home Depot and although it may be slightly more costly up front, it will save you headaches from weeds and pests in the long run. Basically, you pour it onto the pavers and sweep into place with a broom, push broom, etc.....you want it to be about 1/8" to 1/4" below the surface of the pavers. Then come along with a blower and blow the remainder off of the pavers because after the next step, it will harden somewhat and possibly stain your pavers. So after blowing off the excess, obviously don't want to blow out everything that you just put in, but just blow off the excess from the surface. Then you want to lightly sprinkle with water to lock it in. You don't want so much water that it starts ponding or anything, just enough to wet the product. After that, you should have a very nice looking, very weed "resistant" looking paver area. Hope this helps and God Bless!!!
