How can I drive nails or screws into a concrete chimney block?

Received great results on re-facing my chimney (concrete). but don't have a power drill to hold the mesh to the blocks and then re-face the chimney. Besides what is the best type of cement to adhere to the concrete blocks? I forgot, is there any thing else I can use to hold the mesh in place besides screws and or nails before cement is put on?Thank you.

You can use metal clips and lay them in the cement before you lay the blocks together
You don't need to attach mesh to concrete blocks. They are rough enough for the cement to adhere. Use mortar mix on the block. Dampen the block by using a 4" paint brush and splashing the block with water to prevent the block from sucking the moisture out of the mortar mix. Then just trowel the mortar on and smooth out.

Use a surface bonding cement. You can also use a spray bottle to wet down the block.
