This is going to sound weird but try baby oil on a same area to test then if it’s good go from there.

Hi Nan, I simply use hot water with liquid Dawn dish soap in it. I then use another pail with warm water and lemon juice mixed to 'rinse' each cabinet after I've cleaned it. They shine and smell great! Every two years I use a brush and seal the cabinets with a clear marine polyurethane/varnish, this helps the cabinets repel stains and lets you wash them clean real easy.

Hi Nan, Sorry I forgot to mention, the area around the handles may not be stain or dirt, it might be showing wear where your hands rub when you're opening the cabinets. Mine were so I simply removed the handles, cleaned the doors/drawer faces, varnished everything the color of my choice, let dry, then sealed everything with the clear marine varnish. While the varnish was drying, I spray painted all the hardware in the color of my choice. When everything was nice and dry, I reinstalled things and Voila! I had a new kitchen. Good Luck!
