How do I fix this unusable space?

I'm completely stumped on how to fix this space!! I've tried shelves, armoires, wallpaper, nothing looks right. I also have no idea what to do with the incredibly bare spot above the bare spot! lol

Unending space....love for any ideas on how to make it useful.

We like books so I’d probably build a bookshelf I’d be hesitant to use it for firewood storage since bugs love to live in firewood.

I see a place to put a shelf in!

that would allow you to decorate seasonally.

The space uptop would be great for low maintenance plants. But what you have is nice already.

I would not interfere with the light that comes in.

What is behind the book case? It looks heavy and dark instead of highlighting or complimenting the piece. Paint or re do it for a change.

Don't get me wrong, I love the color and pattern.

It just looks out of place. I hope that does not insult you. Maybe it matches the other side??

Looking at it closer it looks like the bookcase is your entertainment center. Another suggestion is to put small shelves at different levels to put the speakers on.

Could it be a closet? Even with a glass door or French style door to “hide” your entertainment stuff? If that’s what you want to do.

You could make lots of shelves and be a very usable space.

You good put some rods in there the kind that are spring loaded and hang colorful throws on them to have for decoration or nighttime t.v. watching and as for the top if what you have up there is your theme then leave that or keep trying different things but I would ad some greenery or flowers just something to fill in the bare spots and brighten it up a little. Also the back wall of the space I would paint a solid color. Okay well that's my in put would love to know what you decide to do. post it as a project.

Hi Lisa. You've drawn the eye to that area. Let's move away from the nook and look at your fireplace wall. Increase the size of your fireplace surround. You can do this easily by building up the trim around the fireplace. On a wall that tall it needs to be bigger. I like what you have on the ledge, but it needs to be bigger. Below is a sample picture of what would be great in your house.

All of the above ideas are great, a shelve for a small desk and chair for sorting mail , or a small home snack center as it is near the tv, please let us know what you did to the space, would love to see the finished product.
