How do I cover this furnace up?

My furnace in my laundry room is an eye sore. I’m looking for a creative way to cover it up. I know I can use a curtain or shutters but I’m looking for something different and functional for my laundry room.

Any ideas?

A three sided box that would be easily removed if needed with a photo

  • Make sure whatever you chose to do, there's easy, unrestricted airflow to your furnace otherwise it will impact its performance along with a host of other issues.

A sturdy sliding barn door with a cola single rack for drying/hanging clothing might be nice. Salvage doors can be quite interesting for this.

A mirrored hanging door will add dimension. Or a plain door that is painted a fun color or with an artistic mural. If you don't want to notice the door then paint it the white of the other cupboards.

From the the picture I would build it to slide over the cabinet for easy access. That leaves the blue wall blank and ready for storage.

Youll ll decide what works best in the space. There are some great choices.

You can frame in an ‘L’ shaped wall, but don’t attach it to the surrounding walls so you’ll still have access to the furnace when needed. Just remember your furnace needs to ‘breathe, and vent.

Put a door on it perhaps as bi-fold

Be careful on what you decide to do? There could be a building code violation on this. To be safe I would check with the codes on this procedure or the manufacturer of this furnace for the air space needed.

I go with Jab32366431 idea. A three sided wall with a grill vent along the bottom for air flow. Easily moved for servicing.

Thanks everyone. The furnace sticks out farther than the cabinets do so a door won’t work. I feel a trip to my local salvage store coming up!

Vented plastic or wood shutters. Or make your own. Sort of a room divider that can be easily moved.

Hi Krista, why not use a folding room divider in front of it? They come in a variety of styles and you could even make one yourself to fit perfect.
