  • Sprinkle the bottom with salt and then pour some vinegar on it. Use a plastic scrubber to clean them. You may need to repeat this, but it should do the trick, Julie!

Thank you Janice! Knew about the vinegar. It was a toss up between baking soda or salt. Wonderful! This website has been my go to for solutions and ideas but I am a first time user for a question. Your timely response is sorely needed for my friend. Julie

You can also clean by smearing some ketchup on the copper portion of the pan. Put on thick and let sit....that's if you don't have vinegar in the house. The ketchup has vinegar in it, that's why it will work as well. Lemon and salt also works because of the acidity of the lemon.

Easier way to clean copper bottom pots/pans as well as many other items is to use Bar Keepers Friend, an inexpensive powder that can be purchased at many stores, Sprinkle some on a wet surface and simply scrub with a sponge. Very easy to use and makes the copper shine like new.

Tomato paste or sauce. Rub it on and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Rinse with sponge/water. If necessary, repeat. Dry with dish towel for a little buffing.
