Are You Thinking of Adding a Spa to Your Pool?
When Long Island Hot Tub’s client wanted to add a spa to his gunite pool -- one that would match his pool in style and materials -- we developed an attractive design for a portable above-ground spa with cultured-stone surround.
The hot tub they chose was a Bullfrog Spa, with individual/interchangeable JetPaks, which was the ideal choice because this particular hot tub has 90 percent less plumbing than traditional hot tubs. Also, because he wanted to use it in winter, it was important it be very energy-efficient, as this make was.
The resulting spa’s handsome stone surround, with matching accent/privacy wall, along with a striking fire bowl, all look as if they were part of the pool and patio from the very beginning.
Special plumbing was added to regulate the new spa’s sheer descent water feature: water spills from the fire bowl into the hot tub; in turn, spa water flows out into the pool for a beautiful hot springs/Roman pool effect. Emphasizing the simplicity and elegance of the renovation, concrete planters hold bright flowers, providing delightful bursts of color.

Portable Spas
The portable spa with interchangeable massage jets was encased in a custom base above-ground, with a stone facade, to give the appearance the client was looking for. Special plumbing was added to create the dramatic sheet-falling (sheer descent) waterfall flowing out from the spa into the pool.
Spa Choices
This customer wanted a spa added to his swimming pool in a matching material (gunite) spa. After hearing him describe what was, in essence, a concrete bathtub, we suggested something with more hydrotherapy and comfortable seating.
Fire Bowls
A second waterfall flows from the fire bowl into the spa; it sits on top of the new matching stone privacy wall we added, providing a setting that suggests a romantic Roman spring.
Positioning a Spa
The spa was raised to allow for a beautiful view of the property’s grounds and pool while sitting in the hot tub.
