I'd make a divider screen the height of the stove back of metal or another non- flammable material and install it about halfway from the edge of the counter. I would try two tension rods with the metal secured to them for easy cleaning and removal when needed.

  • A giant magnet to cover, but would need to be removed any time the stove is turned on.

This is a really odd set up, what does the rest of the space look like?

You need to be careful as these are vents and cannot be obstructed, I think you could get away with simply placing something in front of it like an ornament or something, being careful to ensure that the vents are not blocked. Maybe a spice rack or something functional

I had the same problem when I did my peninsular, Nothing looked right. I sold the stove and bought a slide in. There was a wall here with the stove here.

Try finding an old window with panes hang just in front close to edge so air circulation is still there. Place photos on the glass with double sided tape you can change the pictures with post cards or anything thing you like.

    Boy howdy that's ugly.

Ella is right, that space was intended for a slide in stove.

Assuming that you can't replace it and you're stuck with this view for the time being try painting the back a neutral color and look for easy- to- clean (think cooking spatters) decor to set in front. It can't be solid because of the vents.

Things to consider could be.... a grouping of metal lanterns ... .or a set of large glass vases.... or art glass plates.....start a copper collection (or fake it with spray paint) and display it....It could be every day items like pretty trivets set on small easels ....or a collection of tea cups hung on a hand made mug tree....hit thrift stores for an instant "collection " of something that strikes your fancy and have fun.
