Birdseed Tote Bags

Saving our planet from the scourge of plastic is a hot topic for me. To aid in this cause, I made totes from my Birdseed bags. I keep the bag out of the landfill, and I have a tote for groceries that wipes clean with water in case the meat leaks on the way home. A bit of disinfectant spray and the bag is ready to use again.
So, begin by cutting the bottom off level, removing the stitched closure.
Now cut two strips off the top about 3 inches wide.
Sew handles from those strips by folding the edges to the center, then folding in half with the edges in the middle. Top stitch to keep in place. Fold the top down one inch, then again one more inch, enclosing the raw edge under. Place the ends of the handles about 2 inches from the center. Repeat for the other top side.
Sew the top all the way around the bottom edge of the fold enclosing the handles. Then fold the handles up and top stitch again around the top edge of the bag. You'll have two rows of stitching as seen here.
Turn bag inside out, sew the bottom seam and then box the corners
Voila, all done!! For a more complete and detailed instruction, see my blog post - http://frommycarolinahome.com/2018/07/23/birdseed-bag-totes/

This is such a brilliant idea, why haven't I thought of this before? Our 50# bags of chicken feed will now serve a new purpose!!
