Easy DIY Live, Laugh, Love Sign Using Recycled Frames

When I added picture gallery in the stairway going up to my home office, I had a hard time finding pictures I liked to fill all of the spaces. I wanted something inspirational to read on the "way to work" (ie. walking up the stairs) and I've always tried to live by the "Live, Laugh, Love" motto. So I thought...what better way to fill the empty spot than to create my own sign using that saying.
All of my other pictures in this space are black and white with black frames so I knew I wanted my new artwork to use that color scheme, too.
I rummaged around in my unused frame collection and managed to find 3 8" x 10" frames that were the same. But they were white and would blend right in with the white walls.
The easy fix? Remove the glass and paint the frames with black lacquer spray paint.

The great thing about using spray paint is you can re-coat immediately and it dries really fast.
Next I created the artwork on my computer with the Chinese symbol above the word for each of the frames and printed them.

To get the paper to be the right size to fit the frame, I put the glass from the frame over the printed out image and traced around it with a pencil. Then cut the paper along the pencil marks. That way you know it fits perfectly.
Finally, I put the frames back together with the images and they are all set to be hung up.
Now I have my inspirational saying on the wall and the gap in my picture gallery is filled.
