How to get rid of the geese?

Carolyn, this made me laugh visualizing you with the hose.

Do you have a dog? They will scare them.

An owl or coyote plastic figure in your yard works too.

Amazon has them.

I live in a Lake community, and people on water side use old smelly tennis shoes. They also look for a nest on property and destroy it and eggs.

Me too....Some research say swan decoys work heres a link below. A few of my neighbors have them. Active herding type dogs are the best for mitigation, but sadly my rescue dog is very passive. Squirrels yes, geese no!

Here in Rochester, MN we have an overabundance of Canadian geese year round. One of our golf courses that is on the river used a novel idea. They had cutouts of dogs placed on the fairways scattered along the river. They also invited the golfers to bring their dogs along while they golfed. It seems to have worked, you very rarely see the geese anymore when you drive by the part that was the worst problem. They used cutouts of German shepherds, attached them to something and pushed them into the ground. They are still there and it has been about three years. We have a big problem with both geese and crows that is on going, especially the crows downtown. What a mess!

I am not for or against destroying eggs. However, most of eat chicken eggs, and many eat duck eggs. Many people live here to enjoy the lake and accept the geese, but we had an over abundance of geese. People on lake side could not use their yards because of duck do,do. Therefore, the board that runs this place started the nest and egg hunt. All animals should be treated with respect. I do not hunt eggs or nests, but I understand why they did it. We also have a safe haven for deers, no hunting allowed. They thrive on our vegtables and flowers, but they do not make our yard unusable.

Geese that are nesting can be a lot more aggressive and may not permit you to approach them. However, they are afraid of sudden loud noises which might indicate danger. Firing a hunting rifle, using an air horn, or using some other method to produce an unexpected noise may be enough to drive the geese away.

Of course the obvious is not to feed them, cut tall grass, use swan decors.
