How do I hide my ugly chimney that is now part of my deck?

My husband and I have been renovating an older home for the last 13 years. We now have a new deck / Back Porch. The problem is this hideous chimney that we cannot take down but would love to hide disguise or beautify in some way. We have painted it which helped a lot but it still sticks out like a sore thumb. Any suggestions?

It might help to paint it the exact colour of your siding, Sheila. Then it will fade into the background. :) If you have a piece of siding you can take it to the paint store and have it color matched. :)

Yes, paint it the color of the siding, it will blend in.

The simplest solution is to paint it the same color as your siding to help it blend in. Then hang outdoor appropriate artwork on it. It looks like you have a rustic feel to this area. You could glue barnwood, pallet, or other old wood lengths on top of the brick to make this a feature area.

I would paint the chimney to match the color of the house and then hang a large wooden (painted or stenciled) farmhouse looking sign on it to match your rustic theme. Maybe a "Welcome to our Porch" sign or "Boo!" or "Gather" or "Merry" or anything seasonal. If you don't paint, then stencil a few old weathered boards that are almost as wide as the chimney and about 3 or 4 feet tall and change the sign as the seasons change. Here's a couple I painted on old barn boards. Good luck!

I actually like the way it looks in the picture you provided. The rustic decorations give it an organic look. :-)

Another idea: I often see on Craigslist leftover stone facing for free. Something rustic like a river rock facing might look nice with what you have.

I think stone would look great. You can buy the 12"x12" slabs at the hardware store or you can take a nice hike and collect some stones and face it with mortar. Would be cute and rustic.

You can add something to it like stone and make it a really cool focal point.
