Stone Top Nightstands Makeover

When I grabbed this pair of vintage nightstands I thought it was going to be an easy project. But those things never go as planned. NEVER.
I should've know that those stone tops would pose a problem. But I love the curves on these tables and that pretty hardware! Plus the drawers are dovetail so thats another plus.
I thought I could pull a color from the stone and be done. So as usual I started off by cleaning, sanding and prepping the tables for paint.
I start with a very light gray paint. You can find great quality furniture paint online HERE.
Next, I darkened it up with a layer of dark gray.
Back to light again.
Here I took a chance and added a deep reddish color.
Finally, I added a layer of white wash over the reddish to soften the look. I think I need to stop here before I go any further.
The result is a cloudy and romantic finish with the original hardware being cleaned and put right back on since they don't need paint.
Somehow I really ended up liking the final finish even if it wasn't exactly what I had planned.
I love the cloudy finish! If you like this makeover then make sure to check out a pair of bombe chest nightstands that got a fairytales makeover here: Painted Wood Furniture Inspired by Beauty and the Beast
