I am turning master bedroom into British Colonial style and purchased rattan panels to put up over popcorn ceiling then wood strips to outline/cover empty areas. I have a pitched ceiling and need something fast. See photo to look to achieve.

I think the easiest thing to do is use the wood strips to hold the rattan in place over the seams. Otherwise, you could use a staple gun and then use the trim wood to cover the staples.

I would be worried the glue would seep through and maybe discolor the rattan. Staple gun sounds like the way to go if you don't have a trim nail gun.

  • I agree. I would use a staple gun to hole the rattan in place and cover it with thin strips of stained wood. Stain before installing.

    I agree as well.

Please advise how you would hold up a 4x8' piece and staple or attach wood strips by yourself? I don't mean to be disrespectful, but I am having trouble seeing how I would do this. Clear glue? tacky glue? temp tacky something?

handling anything 4x8 by yourself would be a challenge. My only thought would be to use a couple or several wood boards or pvc pipes cut to proper length to be used vertically to hold up one end while you work on the other end???

That's exactly what I would do! It's not like anyone can make the problem easy for you, you just gotta be creative or ask a friend to help you. Offer dinner as a thank you. I've done that many times (but most of my friends would never ask for or expect any type of "payment" for their help). Or offer to return the favor and help them with something, if necessary.
