Backsplash to the ceiling or not?

I think the backsplash to the ceiling would look lovely. However, if not the ceiling, have you considered open shelving? That would give you a stopping point for the backsplash.

I vote to tile all the way to the ceiling. Would look more current.

Taking the backsplash all the way up to the ceiling could be over powering depending on the type of tile you use, but it will cover up the imperfections on the wall. What do you plan on using? Are you planning on putting cabinets back up? You could even put in a shelf to hold the microwave/toaster oven. Or are you doing shelving (keep in mind that you'll be constantly rewashing anything on those shelves)? If doing the shelving, the tile can go behind them. If all else fails, you could replace the trim around the whole kitchen or just remove it and finish off the wall and ceiling.

Yes!!! Check out Jennifer Allwood's page (just search her on Google) and you can see what she just did in her kitchen. In one area of her kitchen she took the backsplash all the way to the ceiling. AMAZING!!

I say it is your kitchen, so do what you want and need to do. It will look great with that new stove.

It is all a matter of preference. It will cost you more to do more backsplash but it will be a lot easier to keep clean.

Go all the way if you aren't going to put something there.

I have seen it done a few ways, although it may be code in your area to have a vent above the stove so I would check that first. Some go all the way up and some stop at the cabinet line. Some make a decorative tile area above the stove so that it looks intentional. Typically you can tape up the tiles to see what you like best and the black stove will look great but that color is a pain to keep clean and dust free....
