How can I use this waisted space??

How do I put this corner of my kitchen to good use. It is waisted space. I can't remove the inverted corner because of water pipes. It is a very old house. I have tried to come up with ideas, but the only thing I can think of so far is to take care of the counter top, but it is the rest of the area that I don't know what to do with. Thank you for your help, Jayanna Corbin.

  • I see your coffee pot, could you make it a coffee corner? Pot in the corner, and a metal bar hung on the wall for your mugs. A small basket beneath with other fun coffee items. Just an idea! https://www.hometalk.com/diy/organize/kitchen/my-mini-coffee-station-it-greets-me-every-morning-578829

If you can access that corner to mount a broom holder. The type you ‘clip’ in the brooms, etc will work. Don’t block the air return vent down below or you will have HVAC problems.

Thank you for all the ideas. It is a back porch behind that fridge. I am going to show these ideas to my husband to see what his reaction to them are!

Install a couple of shelves and store small things that you don't really want seen but can still access.

A wire counter top spice rack. They generally have several levels or shelves to hold spices or anything that size. There are also wire racks for pot and pan storage available. Good place for small appliances (coffee makes, toaster, mixer, etc). You could put a bulletin or dry erase board on the wall for messages and coupons. Hang a calendar with appointments and other important info written on it. Put a note pad there and make it a center for recording info from incoming phone calls.

Jayanna, I see a cold air vent in your inverted corner space, you could put a clamp in there up high and hide a broom.

Also, how about decopage the counter before creating your coffee corner.

Could you build some shelving beside the dishwasher to store your large items like cases of Coke and water jugs. Maybe hang some cute fabric in front of it to hide it.

Kayanna, I’d like to see you paint that bit of aqua countertop in white or gray paint to match the other. Clean it off of everything and put everything on the kitchen table. One pint or less of paint ought to do it, but don’t forget the front edge, which might need a little sanding. While that dries, look around for a rectangular tray, piece of wood, or two placemats that will cover the part you painted. Paint that any color you wish, although coffee color would look good. Move your coffee pot down to sit on that area, and move your Coffee banner down to decorate the bottom of the top left cabinets. Clean the bottom shelf completely, moving everything to the kitchen table. In the tray area, you could have a mug tree to hold 6-8 of the cups your family uses. There is plenty of room for creamer, sugar, and similar things in a basket, with napkins nearby and a glass full of spoons, and room on the front to fix the cups.

With the first shelf of the cabinet, you have been keeping the distilled water, coffee can, and possibly a few other coffee supplies. That looks like a good place to keep them, toward the front. If there are a few items on the kitchen table that you want to hide behind the can, keep it to a minimum. For all the other things on the table from the shelf and countertop, decide for each one: Is this necessary? Is it useful? Does it add to my (coffee) pleasure in the coffee space or shelf? If it doesn’t fit one of the questions, move the item to another place, or start a box of discards next to the trash can.

Still nitpicking, clean the counter to the left of the sink completely, using a toothpick for seams. Now you have a counter for prep work or dishes, with no coffee pot. Try to keep this countertop free of decorations unless you need it for a dish rack. Just having a dedicated clean spot helps a lot. Oh, if that’s a soda carton next to the left wall, keep cold sodas in the bottom fridge drawer or under the left cabinet. “He who drinks them, stores them.” Sounds official, doesn’t it!

Other people have lots of ideas, too. But if you need anything from me, just respond under my comment. Best wishes, Kayanna. ☺️
