How do I make a toilet bowl cleaner?

Combine vinegar and essential oil in a small spray bottle. Spray vinegar mixture inside bowl, and also on toilet seat, lid, and handle. Allow cleaner to sit for several minutes. Sprinkle baking soda inside toilet bowl and scrub inside of bowl with a toilet brush.

Chloe has a great answer. I like to use Sanivac or LimeAway as well as vinegar. We have very hard water. I like Viva paper towels for this. After cleaning the bowl as much as you can, Soak a Viva towel with your solution and place under the rim to cling. Also, lay flat wet towels. Our hard water stains stay above the waterline because that's where it dries out. For extra "credit", flush the toilet and turn off the water to the tank while the water is low. Place more wet towels with the solution until all the ceramic is covered. Let it soak, even checking and spraying to keep it wet. Once it looks like the solution has stripped the lime scale, be sure to remove all of the paper and not to flusMore extra credit*....use automotive or furniture paste wax on the inside of the bowl above your waterline. This will prevent the hard water deposits from sticking to the bowl. Unfortunately, this will wear off as you use your general toilet bowl cleaner, so you need to deep clean and wax again in about 6 weeks. It's not perfect, but it definitely makes the cleaning a lot easier as you go along. I use the Mr Clean toilet wand between deep cleaning.

I've noticed some bait ads suggesting WD-40. It sounds like a similar result, but I doubt it would last as long. And the other hot "trick" or "hack" suggests flushing dryer sheets for some reason. NOT a good idea...dryer sheets do not break down and it will guarantee needing a plumber in the near future!

All the previous responses are great! What I had to do to keep mine clean (because of extremely hard water and well...hubs and kids) was after I got it really clean I started using Kaboom Scrub Free Continuous cleaner. Super easy to use just install it, add the tablets and it keeps the bowls sparkling clean. Granted I give it the once over now and again but it truly does wonders. Good luck!

I tried all the tip tricks and diy formulas ( koolaid) and found with hard water troubles and stain= my solution to be the pumice stick.

This is excellent way to remove stains and rings in the toilet. When commercial toilet cleaners fail -this is my go to. Great for thick crusted calcium mineral build up that the toilet waterbowl collects.

They are found at my local Walmart for less than two dollars -good for multiple uses.

Be sure to follow the use instructions, soaking the pumice stone in water for a few minutes. While the stone is soaking, grab your toilet brush and splash water up around the ring. Note: It’s very important to keep both the stone and the surface wet while cleaning to avoid scratching your porcelain.
