I used to have the same issue and ready to add one drop of blue Dawn to my dishwasher detergent and it started clearing up my dishes.

Don't want too many suds in your dishwasher. I buy Finish Quantum Max to wash my dishes and have not had any trouble. Could you have hard water and that makes things cloudy?

  • I bought some cloudy dishes thinking it was hard water (it wasn't) but I wrote up a post about every method I could find to get them clean. Here's the link:

Also you can use a product called cerama bryte for stainless. It works on the glass too...Hope that helps!

  • Depending on what type of hard water has caused the cloudiness, acetone is really great for removing most things on glassware. I've used it in a chemistry lab for so many different things on glassware :) For stainless steel, I have used vinegar and lemon juice combined with success.

We switched from gel type dishwasher detergent to powdered dishwasher detergent and could see a difference immediately, not only in our glassware, but our stainless flatware. An added bonus was that the inside of our dishwasher (walls, base, racks and door) was cleaner and no scum buildup on the gaskets. We tried this in our dishwasher first, then our clothes washer. Same results. Good luck!
