How do I make an easy, sturdy, cat tower

Cat towers are really expensive in pet stores, and sometimes cheaply made. I want one about 4 feet to 5 feet high that is not too time consuming or expensive to make. A platform at the top for the cat to sleep on would be perfect. Thanks for your suggestions!!

Stack and connect boxes to the height you want. Cut holes where the cats can tunnel from box to box. Then wrap the entire structure with rope, using the appropriate glue gun sticks. Let dry.
Jackson Galaxy (My cat from hell on Animal Planet) suggests shelves on the wall at different levels. They'll run & jump to the different levels & can sleep feeling safe! Make sure some are relatively high. So fun to watch. Helps w/any cat issues you may have, too, because they have their own
spaces away from you, other cats, dogs. . . .I'm looking for shelves now. Jackson calls it
