After I use the dishcloth I rinse it and drape it over the faucet. Within a day or two it smells mildew

100% cotton won’t mildew so quickly. The smell is letting you know not to use them.

  • Vinegar. Switch to microfiber or 100% cotton and spritz with vinegar to disenfect it.

I was going to tell you that the only way I accomplish this is to use a fresh clean one every couple of days. I looked at a few videos and that's sort of what they all said.

I wash my dishcloths every 2 days. I have a lot so I can rotate them. If they don't dry hanging over the faucet from day to day they will smell. I buy inexpensive face wash cloths to use as my dishcloths-6/8 for about $4.00-- so if I can't get the smell out of them I throw them away.

I use handiwipes. They don't get that odor and can be used over and over. When well worn I use them for very dirty projects and throw them out.

I have found that if i do not use fabric softener on my dishclothes and be careful with how much laundry soap you are using, that they dont get that smell. Also make sure they are completely dry before putting away. I have softened well water and i dont use fabric softener on any of my towels because it is like a water sealer/repellent. Trapped soap is what makes them smell.

  • I use a new one every day and I bleach them every time I wash them.

I use sponges and throw them in the dishwasher every time I run a cycle.
