Since I don't know what type of stains they are, I am suggesting based on my own experience. We have walnut furniture that was terribly neglected and we at least minimized stains after cleaning. Old English and Formby's products both work well.Clean it well with a wood cleaner, then lemon oil to moisten the wood. Good luck!!

      - If the stain has soaked into the wood, it will be more difficult to get out but don't give up. We used Murphy's Oil Soap to clean, then for scratches and areas where the stain had been worn off, nicked, etc, we used Old English because it will stain the area. If the wood has a solid finish, you can use lemon oil to soak into the wood and then clean as much of the stain out as possible - don't sand it - you'll remove the finish. The good thing is that with some elbow grease (not enough to take any finish off), cleaning, & let the oil set in for a while (at least 20 minutes - more if there are exposed or worn places where the wood is exposed & depending on how dry the wood is) to moisturize the wood and then wiping it down well, you should have a great piece of furniture. You cannot buy true walnut wood any longer - you can get walnut finish but true walnut wood itself is gorgeous, even with some non perfect blemishes. I hope this helps - Enjoy and good luck!!
